Former WCW Executive Vice President Eric Bischoff spoke about his memories of working with Scott Hall on a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast. Bischoff also went into detail on how Hall’s WCW Monday Nitro debut in May 1996 came about following Hall’s departure from WWE.

You can check out the interview highlights below:

Eric Bischoff on how Scott Hall’s Nitro debut changed wrestling: “That day, May 27, 1996, happened to be my birthday. It was one of the best birthday gifts I’ve ever received, and obviously, I didn’t know it at the time. Scott Hall coming down through the crowd, that was a magic moment. It was a magic moment that propelled the industry to a level that I don’t think we had seen before and may never see again. Scott Hall had a lot to do with that.”

On his memories of Hall outside the ring: “I just want to talk about Scott Hall the person. Scott had his challenges, we all know that. But that’s not what he should be remembered for. Certain people, and I count myself among them, got to know Scott at a different level outside of the ring and away from the ring, and got glimpses of a very loyal, very generous, and a very caring person. Now, that all got overwhelmed and overshadowed at times by some of the other things we’ve all read about. But at this core, I value loyalty just about more than anything else. I don’t think there’s a more loyal person I’ve met in the wrestling business – loyal to the friends and loyal to the business. I wish he had been as loyal to himself, and he struggled with that. He had baggage that fortunately none of us have to deal with in our lives.

“I just don’t want people to forget – since he’s passed, I was talking to DDP the other day. DDP shared some things with me in his own DDP-ish type way that were interesting in regard to DDP’s last conversation with Scott when he was in the hospital. Page said, ‘It’s amazing that since he’s passed, people are treating him like James Dean and putting him on a pedestal,’ as they should because he was such a unique character. And even though so many of us were aware of the struggles he had, you couldn’t keep him down when the red light was on. He loved it. He absolutely loved it. We’ve heard friends of ours talk about feeling at home in the ring and that being the only place that they genuinely felt at peace. That was Scott Hall. There probably won’t be another like him, and like you [Conrad Thompson] and DDP talked about it’s he’s at peace, and God bless him.”
