FOX officially held their upfront today and revealed their fall lineup which will feature SmackDown live on Friday nights for two hours between 8 and 10.
In an interview held a few days before the Upfront with Adweek, Chief Executive of Ad Sales for FOX Marianne Gambelli said this about WWE joining the broadcast network:
“First of all, working with [WWE chief brand officer] Stephanie McMahon and the WWE organization has just been incredible. Their ability to create storylines and innovate with marketers is incredible, beyond anything I’ve ever worked with before. So I’m really excited about that. It’s kind of a hybrid: It’s being produced by Sports, so I think it’s going to have a look and feel that will be a little different. But the storytelling will be very entertainment-focused. So it’s going to live in both worlds at Fox. This will be the first time it’s on broadcast, which is a big deal.”
“If it’s an island, it’s an island I would want to go to and spend some time. I don’t think it’s an island. I think it’s another great promotional vehicle for us, for our other nights. It’s a unique asset.”
SmackDown debuts on FOX Friday, October 4 at 8 PM eastern.
