Cody Rhodes officially punched his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 39 by emerging victorious in the 2023 Men’s WWE Royal Rumble match. The American Nightmare eliminated WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER to score the biggest victory of his career in San Antonio, Texas.
While GUNTHER failed to win the Royal Rumble match, his valiant efforts didn’t go in vain. The Ring General received huge acclaim for his spectacular performance at the Alamodome and set a new record in the process.
GUNTHER entered the match at #1 and became the ultimate Iron Man, lasting longer than any Superstar in the history of a traditional Royal Rumble match. He tied Rhodes for most eliminations in the match (five) and lasted in the ring for 71 minutes. GUNTHER surpassed the 17-year-old record set by Rey Mysterio’s 62-minute match winning performance during the 2006 Royal Rumble.
