During the closing segment of Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Lesnar came out to confront Theory following a six-man tag bout. The segment led to the “Beast Incarnate” giving the 2022 Money in the Bank briefcase winner two F5s to end the show.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Lesnar wasn’t happy when he found out about the news that Vince McMahon would be retiring from WWE. At that point, he left the venue. This led to WWE.com removing him from the advertising for SmackDown as they didn’t know if he was going to return or not.
According to a report from Fightful, Lesnar eventually did make his way back to the venue after things “blew over.” One WWE Superstar said that the situation had been “overblown” but did acknowledge that they didn’t know whether he’d be appearing on the show as things were said to have been fairly tense earlier in the day.
Additionally, there were multiple changes made to the original WWE SmackDown script due to Lesnar’s questionable status. Lesnar was originally set to appear during the opening segment of the show. The final rundown for SmackDown did not feature Lesnar on it at all, and the last segment on the show was designed in a way where Lesnar could be included if he agreed to return to the venue, which he did after talking with certain higher-ups in the company.
