AEW star Hikaru Shida issued a short statement on Twitter this evening during the promotion’s broadcast of Rampage, where the former AEW Women’s Champion responded to being replaced in the Owen Hart Memorial tournament by Kris Statlander.

Tony Schiavone had revealed during an interview with Jade Cargill and The Baddies that Shida was injured from her Philly Street Fight with Serena Deeb, and would no longer be competing in her first round matchup against Red Velvet. However, Shida seemed to have not been told about the decision to be pulled, later adding that she worked several matches after her street fight and isn’t injured at all.

“Well…. I already had 4 matches after the street fight and just finished the greatest fighting musical show. But I seem to have been injured…Japanese wrestling is nothing for them. I’m so sorry. And sorry couldn’t be in the tournament too.”

Whether this is an angle by AEW for storyline purposes remains to be seen. We will keep you updated as the story unfolds.
