The NFL kicked off its 2022 season on Thursday night with the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams losing to the impressive-looking Buffalo Bills. As has been the case for the last twenty years, the NFL opened its season with a Thursday night primetime game. This wasn’t good news for Impact Wrestling’s viewership numbers.

Thursday’s episode brought in a 0.01 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, with just 60,000 viewers. Those numbers are down from last week’s show, which garnered a 0.02 rating in the demo and and a viewership audience of 104,000.

The demo for this week’s show was the lowest for this year, and their lowest since December 21, 2021, which was a “Best of 2021” special. The total audience on Thursday was the lowest since the 48,000 viewers who tuned in for the Thanksgiving 2021 episode. Impact did not rank in the top 150 cable originals for the night, according to Showbuzz Daily.

Impact is averaging a 0.029 demo rating on the year, with an average viewership audience of 112,000. Over that same period in 2021, Impact averaged a demo of 0.039 and an audience of 130,000.

NFL games (and other live sporting events) typically have an effect on pro wrestling’s viewership as they tend to target the same audience. While no numbers are final yet, Deadline reports that 21 million viewers tuned in for the Rams-Bills contest. Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics noted that the drop in Impact’s ratings was solidly male, with men dropping their viewership by 65% in the key 18-49 demo, even as women tuned in at about the same rate they normally do.
