The Switchblade Jay White defeated Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Dominion to become the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Although White is heading towards another collision course with Okada after the Rainmaker won his second straight G1 Climax, White is set to defend the title against someone else beforehand.
New Japan announced on its website that Okada and White will put their title shot and title on the line, respectively, at the upcoming ‘Declaration of Power’ event in October. Okada will defend his title opportunity against JONAH, while White will defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against former Bullet Club ally Tama Tonga.
JONAH defeated Okada on August 7th in Osaka, while Tonga defeated White on August 16th in Budokan Hall in Tokyo. Whoever wins their respective matches will go on to the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 17.
