Jim Cornette has said he doubts WWE will treat Cody Rhodes as a main eventer after the former TNT Champion’s departure from AEW last week.
Rhodes left AEW, reportedly over a pay dispute and after losing booking control to Tony Khan, and it’s been said that Vince McMahon will treat him as a “big deal” when he returns to WWE.
Cornette doesn’t believe WWE is ready to push one of the founders of AEW to main event status, as he explained on his podcast:
“Do you honestly believe WWE will hire a talent who was a champion in AEW, who was one of the top guys and has a number of victories over some of the others and push him to the moon and have him start beating the top stars in the WWE? I highly doubt that.
“I think Cody will be a very well-paid upper mid-card star because they want the information, and they want the visual, the optic, but also they will want to get to work on the card. Rhodes will not be the be-all and end-all of their problems on the card, and WWE really isn’t going to have an AEW guy going there to get any victories over Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley anytime soon.”
Rhodes has reportedly already been in contact with WWE, and is rumored to return in time for WrestleMania 38.
