WWE Hall of Famer John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield has said that he regrets not winning the WWE Championship sooner in his career.

Debuting in the WWF in late 1995, JBL would become WWE Champion after nine years, capturing the title from Eddie Guerrero at the Great American Bash 2004 event.

Speaking to Inside the Ropes, JBL said he regrets that he didn’t win the title sooner as by the time he became WWE Champion, his body had ‘given out’ on him:

“Yeah, I wish I’d have got the Championship run younger. You know, I don’t want to cut my APA time off. But, you know, I wasn’t ready when I came into the WWE for a big-time run.

“It doesn’t work that way. You know, it’s still a progression, you know, very rarely do guys who are great college athletes go into the pros and automatically right away become as good as they are comparatively in the pros, as they were in college. And I had that run and right when I kind of figured the business out, my body gave out on me, and that’s the only regret I have.”

JBL became WWE Champion at 38 years old, and would hold the title until WrestleMania 21 where he lost to John Cena.

In recent years, JBL has served as a commentator and analyst for the company and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the 2020 class last year.
