Jonathan Gresham has said that a WWE decision to break with traditional heel/face dynamics “f***ed up everything.”

In 1997, to usher in the Attitude Era, Vince McMahon spoke directly to the audience, saying:

“We also believe you are tired of the simplistic theory of good guys vs bad guys.”

In a recent interview with WrestlePurists, Gresham spoke about how wrestling has changed:

“Wrestling has evolved so much – I think it was something WWE said where it’s like people aren’t always good and aren’t always bad. That f—ed up everything. Once that happened, things changed.

“That [form of storytelling] can be done with a couple of people, but there need to be people that are bad and good. If you watch any successful Disney movie, there’s always a villain and a good guy. Now, most wrestling is face vs. face, and everything is pop, pop, pop.”

Gresham lost the Ring of Honor World Championship to Claudio Castagnoli at the recent Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event, and has reportedly asked for his release by Tony Khan.
