Former WWE Superstar Kaitlyn requested her release after fearing she’d be fired by the company.

In 2013, Kaitlyn left WWE, months after winning the Divas Championship and had her last match against her real-life friend AJ Lee.

Speaking on The Sessions with Renée Paquette, Kaitlyn recalled her release:

“I left wrestling because I thought I was gonna get fired, I felt less and less relevant, I had so much shame. I gained all this weight and my body was giving me every signal that I was just not OK, emotionally, mentally, I just had so much hatred for myself… I was in self-destruct mode. So, I just asked for my release on a day…it was just like a really sh*tty day. I was so disassociated with so much from that day, because it was just so painful.”

Kaitlyn had a brief return as part of the 2018 Mae Young Classic, which gave her a sense of closure in her career:

“The Mae Young [Classic] — that was such a big deal to me.”

Since leaving wrestling, Kaitlyn has worked under her real name Celeste Bonin and opened a smoothie bar in Baton Rouge, Florida.
