On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, we saw the return of “The Wrestling God,” as Kenny Omega wrestled his first AEW singles match in almost 18 months, facing El Hijo del Vikingo in an ‘International Dream Match.’

The match has now been awarded a five-star rating by Dave Meltzer. In the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer wrote,

“Notes from the 3/22 tapings in Independence, MO. This was the taping built around Kenny Omega vs. El Hijo del Vikingo, who had a ***** match and one of the best television matches in the history of the company and the single most spectacular television match.”

This is Omega’s fourth straight singles match to be awarded five stars or more by Dave Meltzer, dating back to AEW Dynamite Grand Slam in September 2021. For reference,

  • Kenny Omega vs Bryan Danielson: AEW Dynamite Grand Slam (9/22/21) – ***** (5.00)
  • Kenny Omega vs ‘Hangman’ Adam Page – AEW World Championship: AEW Full Gear (11/13/21) – *****½ (5.5)
  • Kenny Omega vs Will Ospreay – IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom (1/4/23) – ******¼ (6.25)
  • Kenny Omega vs El Hijo Del Vikingo: AEW Dynamite (3/22/23) – ***** (5.00)

With The Young Bucks seemingly written off on this week’s Dynamite and Omega’s rather dicey equation with ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, The Elite Saga is back to being the highlight of All Elite Wrestling.
