As seen during the end of last night’s AEW Revolution pay-per-view event, there was a major pyro fail following the Barbed Wire Deathmatch between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live, it was revealed that Kenny Omega was said to have been “furious” at the botch. For those who didn’t see it, Eddie Kingston came running out to protect Moxley from the explosion that was planned to take place. Instead, there were only some sparks from the ring posts and smoke pouring out from the bottom of the ring.

As you’d expect, the bomb was a complete “dud” and it wasn’t supposed to look like that. With the botch, many fans took to social media to criticize the spot despite the two men having a brutal and very good match beforehand.

During the post-show media scrum, Tony Khan tried to cover the pyro botch by saying that it was due to Kenny Omega’s inability to properly design an exploding ring. Moxley also referenced this following the show so it appears that’s the direction they are going. Obviously, it makes sense storyline wise.

For what it’s worth, the pyro that is used is done by an outside contractor and not AEW themselves.
