Kurt Angle was going to serve as a special guest referee at last Saturday’s Elimination Chamber “Premium Live Event” before his return to WWE was nixed.

In late January, Angle announced on his ‘The Kurt Angle Show’ podcast that he would be returning for a brief program with WWE, but later announced that the program wasn’t taking place.

Angle has said that he was going to be part of the feud between RAW Tag Team Champions Alpha Academy and RK-Bro, and on the latest episode of his show, explained what was going to happen:

“There are a lot of rumors going around that I was supposed to be booked for Wrestlemania 38, which is not true at all. If you saw the posts, a lot of people thought that I was talking about WrestleMania when I was talking about what I was going to do at the Royal Rumble and have the program for a few weeks. Then the blow-off would be in Saudi Arabia, where I would referee the match between RK-Bro and Alpha Academy.”

Angle explained why plans fell through, saying:
“I am not signed with WWE by any means. We didn’t cut a deal. That whole program [RK-Bro vs. Alpha Academy] got canceled at the last second. So it never happened. It’s unfortunate, but you know, sometimes they have different plans for these guys. So there’s nothing you can do about it.” Instead of the RAW Tag Title match, Riddle was part of the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match, which was won by Brock Lesnar.
