The return of Lacey Evans to WWE earlier this year was met with a heavily negative response behind the scenes.
Evans returned to WWE after a year away due to a pregnancy and was initially pitched as a babyface on SmackDown.
It was later reported that she would be moved to RAW and would be working as a heel, though she never wrestled on the red brand.
She was instead moved back to SmackDown and appeared briefly as a babyface before turning heel.
Sean Ross Sapp reports that Evans’ ‘directionless’ return was met with criticism backstage.
“Those we spoke to said that Evans was a personal favorite of Vince McMahon, who was very hands-on and worked directly with Evans as she came to Raw. However, we were told that her return this year was “chaotic and directionless,” as played out on TV.”
Evans was pulled from the July 29 episode of SmackDown, where she was supposed to face Aliyah, and WWE declared that she was not medically cleared.
