Perhaps the biggest story coming out of AEW Fyter Fest this past Saturday was Cody Rhodes taking an unprotected chair shot to the head at the hands of Shawn Spears.
Many within the wrestling community chimed in with their opinions are reactions to this event.
Former WWE Intercontinental Champion, Lance Storm, offered his take (via Twitter) on what may have happened by giving an example of a rookie incident that took place with him and Bam Bam Bigelow in ECW:
“In ECW, when [Masato] Tanaka’s neck got bad from Balls [Mahoney’s] chair shots, they cut the pins that attached the top part of the seat to the frame so the when he got hit the seat would swing up easy…
[The] problem is when it swings up easy your head goes in farther and if you aren’t careful the lip of the seat back becomes even more dangerous. Cutting someone with the lip of the seat back is a rookie chair shot mistake I made with Bam Bam in ECW.
I assume this is what happened on the AEW show last night. To be clear, I’m not condoning the chair shot just offering what I think happened.”
