Jonathan Gresham dropped the ROH World Heavyweight Title to Claudio Castagnoli at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event before asking for his release after having a heated conversation with AEW/ROH President Tony Khan.

Fightful Select reports the situation was confirmed by both sides as “getting heated” privately. From the AEW side of things, they were happy with how the match between Gresham and Claudio came off and respected him for being professional with the booking of the match.

Despite the heated nature of the conversation, it didn’t appear that any bridges were burned. There’s no word yet on whether he has received his release request.

There was interest from “at least three companies” before Gresham signed with AEW/ROH. His immediate feelings were that he was done with wrestling for a while, although many of his co-workers believe that Gresham loves wrestling too much for that to be a reality.
