In recent years, WWE’s home venue, Madison Square Garden, has been a cause of concern for the city of New York.
The city authorities have hoped to remodel and expand Pennsylvania Station, located directly beneath Madison Square Garden, and is therefore relatively constrained in terms of rebuilding and renovation.
The New York Post reports that MSG officials are open to a relocation of the arena to accommodate such remodeling and renovations, as long as the distance is reasonable.
Madison Square Garden currently enjoys some of the best possible location perks in Manhattan, being within walking distance from all the primary subway lines including mass transit access from Long Island and New Jersey.
A new venue directly across the street from Pennsylvania Station may be vacating soon, as the current establishment of the Pennsylvania Hotel is being demolished. There are currently no plans to move the Madison Square Garden to the soon-to-be-vacant location, however, MSG Executive Vice President Joel Fisher admitted that the possibility remains to do so.
Speaking at a community hearing last week, Fisher said,
“But ultimately, who is going to pay for that? Where is the money? That plan hasn’t come to us but that would satisfy being right on top of a transportation hub.”
