Magnum T.A. Says He Remembers Everything From Career-Ending Car Crash

Wrestling legend Magnum T.A. has said he can vividly recall the car crash that paralyzed the right-hand side of his body and ended his wrestling career over 35 years ago.

In October 1986, Magnum lost control of his vehicle due to heavy rain and collided with a telephone pole in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In an interview with Norfolk Navy Flagship, Magnum recalled never losing consciousness throughout the ordeal. He said,

“I remember it all. It was raining really, really hard. I was driving the posted speed limit but it was too fast given the horrible weather conditions at the time. It didn’t seem to me at the time, but the fact that I hydroplaned, if I was going 15-20 miles slower it probably would not have happened.”

During a five-month stint in the hospital, Magnum vowed to not let the accident ruin his life. He said,

“I tried to present a positive attitude, making the best of whatever I was able to gain back from the injury and show the people that I was not quitting the game of life. I was going to find my path and never give up. Through the grace of God, I was able to persevere and help motivate others.”

Despite doctors doubting he would ever walk again, Magnum walked down the aisle at NWA’s Crockett Cup six months after the crash.
