There were some major issues with tonight’s NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed event in New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom. According to multiple reports, the show was delayed due to the ambulance that is required by the New York State Athletic Commission not being there. For those unaware, an ambulance is required to be on-scene at all New York wrestling and MMA events. NJPW reportedly aired clips for over an hour and the always vocal New York City crowd became pissed off.

At around 7:57PM EST, NJPW’s Vice President and Rocky Romero came to the ring and apologized for the “technical issues.” They then gave away t-shirts.

The issue was that the ambulance the Hammerstein Ballroom normally uses for all of their events didn’t show up as planned. There were some reports that it was stuck in traffic but the ambulance company claims they got a phone call this morning saying the event was cancelled and they weren’t needed. The ambulance company then told the Hammerstein Ballroom and NJPW officials that they were no longer available. Someone at the show was able to get a FDNY ambulance instead. The FDNY offered to stay until another one could take their place. However, NYSAC rules wouldn’t allow that, so they had to obtain another one before matches could take place.

An ambulance finally arrived and with EMTs inside the venue, the show was allowed to begin.
