Maria Kanellis Calls On WWE To Bring Back Historic Championship

Former WWE Superstar Maria Kanellis has said that WWE should bring back the Divas Championship which was retired in 2016.

The Divas Championship was introduced in 2008 as SmackDown’s equivalent to RAW’s Women’s Championship, with the titles being united in 2010.

Kanellis, a former 24/7 Champion, said WWE should bring back the title in an interview with Fightful.

“You had a ton of workers that came from the Indies too. It was a mix at that time. I think they should bring back the Butterfly belt. I do.

“I know people will disagree with me and that’s fine. That’s why wrestling is great because when you watch wrestling, you don’t see everybody looking exactly the same.”

WWE’s final Divas Champion was Charlotte Flair, and the title was retired at WrestleMania 32 and replaced with the new Women’s Champion (later rechristened the RAW Women’s Championship.
