AEW’s own Mark Henry has spoken out against the company and WWE referencing Jeff Hardy’s substance abuse problems for storylines.

Jeff is currently suspended without pay from AEW following his arrest last month and has been charged with his third DUI in under ten years.

Hardy’s substance abuse issues were often referenced in WWE including during a 2020 feud with Sheamus.

On a recent episode of AEW programming, Christian Cage made reference to Jeff’s issues during a segment with Matt Hardy, in which he claimed Matt’s comments made Jeff sound like “the sober brother.”

Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, Henry reflected on the segments:

“The fans, they’re gonna do what they want to do, Bully. This is not WWE, this is not AEW that are making these comments. They both did the same thing. Now, how do fans relate to that is up to the fans. In my opinion, I probably would’ve spirit away from using it, but Christian, man, him and Sheamus both, I mean for me, I wouldn’t have done it.”

AEW President Tony Khan has warned Jeff that this is his last chance, and he will not be allowed to return until he can prove his sobriety.
