Marty Scurll seems to now be wrestling outside of CWA in Puerto Rico. He was defeated by Mascara Dorada in a match for Mucha Lucha Atlanta on June 26th. This is the second time he has appeared for the promotion after a prior match in March.

Perhaps more surprising than seeing Marty Scurll in a ring outside of Puerto Rico, was the ring itself. The Mucha Lucha Atlanta event featured a ring with Nightmare Factory logos covering the apron. The Nightmare Factory being the training facility run by WWE’s Cody Rhodes and AEW’s QT Marshall. This Nightmare Factory logo includes a winged skull symbol very similar to the iconic one Cody Rhodes famously had tattooed on his neck. The event’s ring can be seen in Scurll’s recent vlog uploaded on YouTube starting at the 8-minute mark.

Cody Rhodes and Marty Scurll were stablemates in The Elite and Bullet Club factions while wrestling for New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Ring of Honor. When Cody Rhodes and the rest of The Elite helped launch All Elite Wrestling, Scurll chose to stay with Ring of Honor. Though they share a history, with Cody Rhodes currently sidelined with an injury in WWE, extreme caution would be expected to avoid any type of controversy. Especially after his triumphant return to WWE at Wrestlemania 38 and his incredible performance while injured at WWE Hell in a Cell 2022 on June 5th.

Controversy has followed Scurll since the allegations that surfaced in June 2020 during the Speaking Out movement. This scandal led to his official departure from Ring of Honor in January of 2021. Then an attempt to return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling shortly after was swiftly ended due to intense backlash.

The extent of the relationship between the Nightmare Factory and Mucha Lucha Atlanta is unclear beyond both being based out of Norcross, Georgia.
