Matt Hardy Addresses Jeff Hardy’s ‘Erratic’ Exit At WWE House Show

AEW wrestler Matt Hardy has said that a family emergency, long commute and exhaustion were all factors in his brother Jeff’s ‘erratic’ exit during a WWE house show.

Last December, Jeff was seen acting bizarrely during a live event in Edinburg, Texas, and after making the hot-tag, ran out into the crowd and did not return.

Jeff was released after refusing to go to rehab when asked to do so by WWE, though its since been confirmed that he had no drugs in his system.

During ‘The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy’ podcast, Matt explained why Jeff was ‘erratic’ during the match. That’s the word WWE has used to describe his brother’s behavior. He said,

“He ended up being exhausted after driving all night, he was on late in the dark Smackdown, the last match. They had a 300 miles plus drive and he got in early in the morning and then he had a family emergency and then he was up early. I think he was just exhausted and shot and probably beat up at the same time. And he was also very stressed out from his WWE job as well, you know? I think for him sometimes, he kinda gets in his head. Especially if he’s alone on the road and whatnot. I think it’s better with me there too. I think he feels a little more comfortable because he really can get in his own head.”

Matt added that he and Jeff won’t feud when the Charismatic Enigma’s non-compete clause expires, stating “we’re teammates, we’re not opponents.”

Jeff is expected to join AEW when his non-compete clause expires next month, and has turned down a WWE return and Hall of Fame induction.
