In 2001, Maven began his professional wrestling career upon being selected to participate in the inaugural season of WWE Tough Enough. On July 5, 2005, WWE released Maven from his contract.
On the Monte & The Pharaoh podcast, Maven recalled WWE helping him out on a personal level while he was still under contract with the promotion.
The former WWE Hardcore Champion revealed that WWE management had asked him to accompany his mother during her cancer treatment while he continued to receive his paychecks on a weekly basis. He said,
“They told me. ‘Go be with her.’ My checks came every week, they never bothered me, and I was out for 80 days with her. How many companies are gonna do that for you?”
Maven also weighed in on Mr. McMahon’s reputation for having an ego.
“How many businessmen do you know that are that successful that don’t have a little bit of just, I don’t wanna use the word arrogance, but just overabundance of importance on themselves? You don’t get to that level if you don’t have a little bit of a**hole in you.”
