During the early days of the Attitude Era, there was no rivalry quite as intense and personal as that between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. A WWE Hall of Famer recently weighed in on the feud between the two, and revealed what gave the rivalry its nuclear levels of heat.

Speaking on the most recent edition of “Foley is Pod”, Mick Foley believes that the infamous “sunny days” comment made by Michaels was what drove the rivalry to its tipping point. The former three-time WWE World Champion stated, “It’s the ‘sunny days’ comment. I was aware that there was a healthy competition there, and I think there should be. To me, it was like they were on eggshells.”

For those unaware, this is in reference to a comment Michaels made during the May 19, 1997 edition of Monday Night RAW. At the time, Michaels said, “You couldn’t go 10 minutes in any situation if you know what I mean, and even though lately you’ve had some ‘sunny days’ my friend, you still can’t get the job done.”

The remark was seen by many as a reference to an affair that was ongoing between “The Excellence of Execution” and Tammy “Sunny” Sytch. The Hart/Michaels rivalry, which would bleed between on-screen tension and real-life, behind-the-scenes drama, was one of wrestling’s hottest topics for years. Even though Hart and Michaels were able to bury the hatchet back in 2010, the event was recently referenced on an episode of WWE Rivals that aired on A&E.
