Former WWE referee Mike Chioda spoke on his Monday Mailbag podcast about the main event of WWE’s Clash at the Castle pay-per-view event from Cardiff, Wales. Roman Reigns took on Drew McIntyre for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship in the closing match of the show. It looked for all the world that Drew had the match won, until interference from Solo Sikoa allowed Roman to retain.
Some moments of the main event didn’t quite measure up in the estimation of one of pro wrestling’s most famous in-ring officials. Chioda went in-depth about his expectations, the execution of the match, and its outcome. He said,
“Charles Robinson did a hell of a job. There was a couple things – I don’t think it was Charles’ fault at all – the bump was kind of telegraphed, kind of called that out. Just took way too long to develop on that bump and stuff. It just was telegraphed and God, they’re using the barricades a little too much. They did swerve me on the finish. I actually thought Drew was going to go over.”
