“The Redeemer” Miro has already made an impact in AEW. He became TNT Champion after defeating Darby Allin on an episode of AEW Dynamite and ruled as champion for nearly five months. Miro recently returned to action after recovering from a hamstring injury and has picked up where he left off. Now, Miro is looking back at his AEW debut and the creation of his “Redeemer” character.
In an interview with WhatCulture, the former TNT Champion revealed that he met up with AEW President Tony Khan about wanting to have control over his character:
“I just told Tony, ‘Now, this is what we’ll do. I’m going to be me.’ And because he’s a great boss, he let me run with the ball. He gave me the ball and said, ‘Do what you’ve got to do.’ And I’m doing exactly that. He’s not there, he’s not telling me not to smile, not to look at the people, not to do this and that. He’s given me a clean go and that’s what I’m doing. That’s why I signed a multi-year deal because he let me do all these opportunities. If it was the situation like before, that would’ve never happened.”
Before becoming “The Redeemer”, Miro was introduced as Kip Sabian’s best man for his wedding to Penelope Ford. Miro took on the moniker of “The Best Man” as he claimed to be the best at everything he did. However, after Miro and Sabian suffered a loss on Dynamite, Miro attacked Sabian after the match and ended their alliance. Miro would then embrace the new moniker of “God’s favorite Champion” after winning the TNT Championship against Allin.
When asked what he likes about AEW, Miro explained that it’s the freedom he cherishes the most.
“It’s always going to be the freedom. Whenever anybody asks me, ‘What is the difference here?’, it’s the freedom. You don’t have to set yourself in a lower standard, because that’s what I thought the other place was. They let you lower your standard in order to fit their mold. Which, here, it’s not like that.”
Miro recently challenged for the brand new All-Atlantic Championship at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Although “The Redeemer” didn’t walk away with the new gold, he still showcased his strength and willingness to become champion again throughout the match.
