After it was previously reported here on eWn that the original finish for Kenny Omega vs. Andrade at AAA’s TripleMania XXIX event was to have Andrade go over, more details have emerged. On Tuesday’s episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that multiple finishes to the match were pitched before the ending was finalized.
According to the report, the initial finish for the match was to see Andrade defeat Omega and as a result, he would become the new AAA Mega Champion. This plan remained in place until it was decided that Christian Cage would beat Kenny Omega for the Impact Wrestling World Championship on the first episode of AEW Rampage.
Following Omega dropping the Impact World title, it was decided that he should retain the AAA Mega Championship. This remained the plan until Kenny Omega arrived for the event, where he was informed of Ric Flair’s surprise appearance. At this point, Omega pitched him losing the title due to interference by Flair.
According to the report, AEW President Tony Khan was fine with a title change happening at the event. However, AAA settled on keeping the belt on Omega for the time being, despite interference from Flair during the match. This is believed to be because they have a future title match for Kenny Omega already in mind for later down the road.
