As we reported on Tuesday night here on eWn, WALTER appears to be getting a name change as he referred to himself as “Gunther” following the main event of this week’s episode of WWE NXT 2.0. The main event of the show saw WALTER defeat Roderick Strong with a powerbomb.
Following the match, WALTER cut off the ring announcer and said, “The winner of the match is Gunther!” That led to Imperium’s Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel attacking Strong. The Creed Brothers eventually came out to make the save and the two teams brawled as the show went off the air.
Earlier today, we reported that WWE applied for a trademark for the name “Gunther Stark.” That didn’t go over well with many fans on social media as “Gunther Stark” was a Nazi military commander. Stark was a member of the famed “Olympia Crew” for the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany. According to a Google search, The Olympia Crew was one of the most prominent Crews and is described as follows:
“This Crew chose the Olympic rings as their symbol (the 1936 Olympic games were held in Berlin). It was the largest Crew, and produced more U-boat commanders than any other – of the 164 who ‘graduated’, 140 took command during the war.”
It’s worth noting that WWE only referenced “Gunther” during the NXT 2.0 segment so it’s possible they came to their senses and decided to drop “Stark” as his last name.
Additionally, WALTER’s real name is “Walter Hahn” and you all know by now that Vince McMahon and WWE don’t like using the real names of their talent. Instead, they give them WWE-trademarked ring names so in the event they wind up being released or go elsewhere in the future, the talent won’t be able to use their WWE ring names in other promotions.
The ring isn't big enough to hold a brawl of this magnitude!! #Imperium #DiamondMine#WWENXT @WalterAUT @Marcel_B_WWE @FabianAichner @roderickstrong @JuliusCreedWWE @BrutusCreedwwe pic.twitter.com/FLEQUtLsY5
