Jay Briscoe tragically passed away in a car accident in Laurel, Delaware on January 17th, eight days before his 39th birthday and one day before his brother’s 38th birthday. His daughters, who were in the car with him, suffered serious injuries. Jay’s passing created a void in the world of professional wrestling.

The Briscoe Brothers were previously banned from AEW television by Warner Bros. Discovery due to Jay’s 2013 homophobic comments on Twitter. The broadcast giant has been in no mood for forgiveness despite Jay repeatedly apologizing for the tweets over the years.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there are numerous reasons why Mark and Jay Briscoe were banned from AEW television. One of them was indeed Jay’s homophobic tweet from 2013. The other alleged reason was that The Briscoes’ outfits previously had a Confederate flag on them. Due to this, Warner Bros. Discovery initially refused to let Mark appear on AEW television until this past week and blocked any type of noteworthy tribute to Jay the previous week. Warner Bros. Discovery has the power to ban anyone from television due to the terms of its agreement with AEW.

Mark eventually made his AEW Dynamite debut this past Wednesday night and paid tribute to his late brother. Mark is now allowed to appear on the Warner Bros. Discovery network going forward, and his Dynamite appearance was not just a one-time thing.
