As previously reported here on eWrestlingNews.com, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WWE reportedly promised to make Alberto Del Rio a “Paul Heyman Guy” and give him a big push when he returned to the company last year. According to the report, when Del Rio returned to the company, Vince McMahon promised him a main event push with Paul Heyman as a manager. Vince McMahon initially treated Del Rio very well, flying with him and sitting next to him on some trips on the official WWE company jet.

As you know by now, the main event push and Heyman as a manager storylines never took place. There were also plans in place for Del Rio to be pushed as their big Hispanic superstar babyface but that never came to be and the pairing with Zeb Colter — which was an idea from McMahon — floundered.

Following this, McMahon moved Del Rio into a midcard position. He had a short run with the League of Nations.

Del Rio was reportedly considered a “Vince McMahon Guy” and his issues were more with Triple H. Del Rio believes that if McMahon had wanted him to stay, he would have worked harder to smooth things over. Things eventually boiled over and Del Rio gave notice to WWE.
