Former WWE Superstar Mr. Kennedy has said he regrets not speaking up for himself when told that he would be losing the Money in the Bank contract.

Kennedy won the coveted briefcase at WrestleMania 23 but lost to Edge just over a month later.

Speaking to INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Kennedy recalled being told he would be cashing in mere weeks after his win due to The Undertaker, then World Heavyweight Champion, being injured.

“He [Vince McMahon] laid out the scenario basically and he’s like, ‘You’re going to cash in your briefcase, we’re going to have a new champion.’ And I remember him telling me that they were high on Batista at the time; that was their guy. They felt like Batista needed to chase for a while, and they said, ‘When we feel the time is right, we’re going to put it on Batista.'”

Plans for Kennedy’s title win were scrapped when he suffered a triceps injury, and the decision was made for Edge to become champion instead.

“We’re going to take you to Penn State. Edge is going to challenge you for the briefcase, and then he’s going to go on and do what you’re supposed to do tomorrow night.’ ‘Okay.’

“And I remember thinking at the time, ‘I’ve got a year to cash this thing in. Isn’t there some other way you can get it off him?’ But I didn’t say it. I sort of regret not saying it now.”

Kennedy had previously commented on WWE TV that he planned on cashing in at WrestleMania 24 in 2008, which in theory would have given his triceps time to heal.

Kennedy was released in 2009 never winning a WWE World Championship.
