TVLine is reporting that Netflix recently ordered ten episodes of the G.L.O.W series. The series is a scripted comedy inspired by the 80s wrestling promotion Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Jenji Kohan from Orange is the New Black is behind the series.
For those unaware, G.L.O.W. was created in 1986 as a women-only wrestling promotion. The promotion ran through 1990 and ran several live events. The new series was filmed in Los Angeles, CA and includes “big hair and body slams”. The synopsis for the show says it’s a “fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.”
Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch will be the showrunners and executive producers with Kohan and Tara Herrmann.
