As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Cleveland, Ohio at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on the USA Network, Drew McIntyre returned to the ring when he defeated Ricochet in singles action.
It was noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that this contest wasn’t done to push the Team Hogan vs. Team Flair match at Crown Jewel but rather this match was all about getting McIntyre over.
McIntyre will be on Team Flair while Ricochet will be on Team Hogan. It was noted that WWE officials do have strong plans for both McIntyre and Ricochet.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering WWE officials have wanted to push McIntyre in a big way to the point that they wanted to have him get surgery a few months ago in order to be back by WrestleMania 36 season.
It was added that WWE is trying to get McIntyre over for a top spot on Raw right now, and saving Ricochet’s run at the top for later down the line.
WWE officials are focused on getting Drew’s push going now, but Ricochet is more of a long-term project. It was speculated that the Ricochet vs. McIntyre singles feud could continue coming out of Crown Jewel.
