A star from New Japan Pro Wrestling will have the chance to become interim AEW World Champion at this month’s Forbidden Door event.
On Rampage, CM Punk announced that an injury he sustained this week will require surgery, but it has been confirmed that he will remain AEW World Champion.
An interim champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door, with a Battle Royal winner facing Jon Moxley on next week’s Dynamite to determine one of the challengers.
The other competitor will be determined when Hiroshi Tanahashi takes on Hirooki Goto in an AEW World title eliminator match at NJPW Dominion on June 12.
Tanahashi was originally meant to face Punk at Forbidden Door.
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will take place on June 26, at the United Center, in Chicago, Illinois.
