Over the past few weeks, we have seen AEW testing out a new format for their commentary team, in which Jim Ross would miss the first hour of Dynamite, before joining the team for the second hour, before remaining at the desk for the hour of Rampage that is taped after Dynamite.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that Tony Khan was behind the recent changes we have seen to the AEW commentary team. He said,

“I remember the first week when he did it, I remember, I asked him, and it was like, ’Is this a new permanent thing?’ And it’s just like [Tony Khan says], ‘Well, it’s something that we can do.’”

Additionally, it should be noted that Meltzer made it clear that Khan is not “committed” to one specific commentary team, with no one combination of commentators seen as “the permanent thing.”
