On Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Bryan Danielson picked up a win over Chris Jericho to advance to final round of the AEW World Championship Tournament. At one point, the match saw Jericho target Danielson’s ankle.
According to Dave Meltzer on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, it was Jericho’s idea to do the ankle injury to Bryan Danielson. The spot was an homage to a 1987 bout between Randy “Macho Man” Savage and Bret “Hitman” Hart. Despite the match having semblance to how the recent Jon Moxley vs. CM Punk title match on AEW Dynamite went, it is said to be a mere coincidence that both matches involved injury angles.
Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley are set to face off in the finals for the vacated AEW World Title on next Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam broadcast. The event will take place from Arthur Ashe Stadium and will be broadcast live on TBS.
