Meiko Satomura posed a serious threat to Kay Lee Ray’s NXT UK Women’s Championship reign back in March, but surprisingly, came up short. Ray held on to the title for several more months, but everything came back around to a rematch.
The second time proved to be the charm. Today, on the June 10, 2021 edition of NXT UK, Satomura managed to learn from her mistakes and score the decisive pinfall. We have a new NXT UK women’s champion.
That puts Ray’s run at a whopping 650 days. Obviously, that may not have been the case if it weren’t for COVID-19 shutting everything down for months. But while that is less impressive in theory, the stat remains. The history books will show Ray as one of the longest-reigning champions in the company’s tenure.
A new chapter is starting in the women’s division for NXT UK. Who will be the next in line? Will Ray win the title back? Is Jinny the de facto #2 heel and the most logical option? What about Aoife Valkyrie or Emilia McKenzie?
