WWE commentator Pat McAfee will return to the promotion next year despite the recent changes to the commentary teams.
It was reported this week that all three commentary teams will be changed, starting with tonight’s SmackDown, and none of the new teams feature McAfee.
McAfee hasn’t called the action on the blue brand in weeks due to his ongoing role with ESPN’s College GameDay.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that McAfee is set to return to WWE in January, and will “rejoin the team” on SmackDown.
There is no word on whether the team, now consisting of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett, will become a trio or if McAfee will replace Barrett as color commentator.
McAfee became a SmackDown commentator in April 2021 and has been praised for his enthusiasm in the role.
