AEW’s Paul Wight once encouraged Kofi Kingston to leave his New Day allies behind, believing the former WWE Champion was wasting his time in the group.
The New Day came together in 2014 and the group has had success both in the tag-team division and in singles opportunities.
Speaking on a recent edition of the “Undrafted AllStarz” podcast, Big E recalled the advice Wight gave Kingston which the AEW correspondent would later apologize for. He said,
“We had like Big Show pulling Kofi aside, ‘What are you doing with those two? You’re wasting your career.’ He came back later and apologized because sometimes people don’t see the vision. They don’t see what you see.”
Kingston has been feuding with Viking Raider Ivar in recent weeks, who has continued to be used on TV despite Ivar’s tag-team partner Erik being injured.
