Paul Wight Says Steve Austin Used To “Kick The Sh*t” Out Of Him In The Ring

There was a time when “Stone Cold” Steve Austin got Paul Wight really fired up.

Paul Wight (The Big Show) and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin are no strangers to one another, having battled during the famed WWF Attitude Era. After signing a ten-year contract with the company, Wight debuted as a member of now-retired Vince McMahon’s stable, The Corporation. The former WWE Champion tore through the canvas and attacked Austin during a cage match at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre: In Your House.

Wight and Austin would go on to have many battles when WWE went on tour in the U.K. The massive Superstar recalled Austin, “kicking the sh*t” of him for about 3 to 4 minutes.

During a recent appearance on The Wrestling Classic’s “Casual Conversations,” Wight recalled the Rattlesnake not wanting to put him over in a match at one point. Wight was heading towards a program with Brock Lesnar, so McMahon thought it’d be a good idea to put Wight over strong. However, Austin had different plans.

According to Wight, Austin’s response when told that he’d be losing was, “Vince, these people paid a lot of money to see Stone Cold Steve Austin drink a few beers and hit a few stunners, not do a job to the freaking Big Show.” Apparently, McMahon and Austin understood that Wight needed to be more aggressive. This led to an incident during the match when Wight accidentally pulled Austin’s shorts too far up, and the Rattlesnake responded with three shoot punches to Wight’s chin. Wight admitted that he lost it and threw Austin over the top rope. Despite the heated exchange, Austin admired Wight’s aggressiveness.

Wight went on to establish a Hall of Fame level career in WWE. He’s currently signed to AEW as a part-time wrestler and commentator.
