A new report from Fightful Select has revealed the backstage reaction to Vince McMahon announcing he would be making his in-ring return. The report also commented on the humorous reaction backstage to McMahon’s segment with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
According to the report, Vince McMahon originally made the decision that he wanted to wrestle at ‘Mania several months ago. Interestingly, the report notes that several people both close to McMahon and on the creative team made it clear they thought it was a “terrible idea.”
Additionally, the report says that in the subsequent days after McMahon’s segment with Austin there were “plenty of laughs.” These laughs were shared by McMahon himself even after his poor selling of a Stone Cold Stunner, with the line reportedly given by Vince being “as long as people were laughing and entertained, it’s okay.”
Finally, it was reported that it was Vince McMahon that laid out the entire post-match segment for McMahon vs. Pat McAfee. This included McMahon reacting to Austin Theory’s music hitting before Stone Cold Steve Austin’s did.
