We noted earlier on the site that it was reported that WWE planted the seeds for a match between Shane McMahon and Kevin Owens. Many fans believed that this match would take place at SummerSlam. However, obviously, that is not the case as WWE has already announced that AJ Styles would defend the United States Title against Owens with McMahon being the special guest referee at the upcoming event.
There is still the chance we may see Owens and McMahon clash before the year ends. Bryan Alvarez mentioned on Sunday’s installment of Wrestling Observer Live that he doesn’t believe a singles match between Owens and McMahon will take place. Instead, he did speculate that he believes that they will do a Team Owens vs. Team Shane match at the Survivor Series pay-per-view event in November.
