As seen during last night’s SmackDown Live, Rusev returned to WWE TV for the first time since the “Superstar Shake-Up”. Rusev made a statement during his return, as he interrupted the other returning man of the night, John Cena. Later on during the show, it was made it official that at WWE Battleground on July 23rd; it will be Rusev vs. John Cena in a Flag match.
During the latest installment of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez stated that the reasoning for the stipulation was just in case WWE decides to have Rusev win the match. In a Flag match, no man/woman needs to be pinned in order to lose. All that has to be done is to grab your specific flag to be named the victor, which means John Cena does not have to be pinned to lose the match.
