Great Britain’s Iconic World of Sport Wrestling Set to Make a Comeback at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls Sunday 17th November 2013

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 12 November 2013 World of Sport Wrestling, an iconic British ITV brand, is set to make a comeback on Sunday 17th November 2013 at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls.

ITV’s World of Sport Wrestling broadcast from 1965 to 1985, drawing an average viewership of 8.5 million fans every week. At its peak an audience of 18 million tuned in for the 1981 clash between Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks at Wembley. Other British wrestlers such as Mick McManus, Jackie “Mr TV” Pallo, Kendo Nagasaki, Les Kellett, and “Bomber” Pat Roach all became household names. So popular was World of Sport Wrestling that a 1968 event held at the Royal Albert Hall featured Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, as a guest of honour.

The event is being taped in advance of World of Sport’s 50th anniversary in 2015. The event marks the first new World of Sport Wrestling taping in 28 years.

World of Sport Wrestling utilises a highly respected technical style drawn up by the late Admiral Lord Mountevans in the Committee Rooms of Great Britain’s Houses of Parliament.

The comeback event at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls will feature new wrestlers, but promises to be in the spirit of the original World of Sport Wrestling, utilizing the Mountevans rules.

Flying in exclusively to wrestle the Mountevans style is international superstar Matt Kaye (aka Matt Striker).

World of Sport Wrestling legend Johnny Kidd is scheduled to wrestle Striker in the main event, with a special guest enforcer referee; World of Sport Wrestling legend Johnny Saint.

The event will also see wrestling action from Joe Legend, the 36 stone Karl Krammer, The Zebra Kid, Zak Knight, Travis, Jon Ritchie, and others.

Johnny Saint (the man widely considered to be the world’s greatest technical wrestler) will officially be retiring as part of this event; a retirement ceremony for Johnny Saint will include World of Sport Wrestling legends Marty Jones, Wayne Bridges, Tony “Banger” Walsh, Johnny Kincaid, Jackie Turpin, Bob Kirkwood, Bob Anthony, Karl Heinz, Bobby Stafford, Mel Stuart, Billy La Rue, and more.

Special guests include Frank Rimer (organiser of the British Wrestlers Reunion), Sarah Bridges (Miss Great Britain and the largest female bodybuilder in the world), and representatives from the British Olympic Wrestling Association; Cary Depel (Chairman), Stephen Cooke (Director), and Colin Nicholson (Vice Chairman).

Veteran British wrestling commentator Lee Bamber is scheduled to get back behind the microphone. Master of ceremonies Steve Lytton and “Ukulele” John Atkins are also scheduled to appear.

Tickets for this family friendly event are priced at £12 adults, £10 concessions, and £40 for a family of four. Tickets may be purchased via woswrestling.com or alternatively telephone the Fairfield Halls box office on 020 8688 9291 (booking fee may apply). Tickets will also be available on the door, subject to availability. Doors open 2pm, and the event commences 3pm.
