Due to a back injury, Randy Orton has not been on WWE television since May when the Usos defeated RK-Bro in a unification title match on the May 20th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Orton was attacked by The Bloodline to be written off television following the match.

Orton was pulled off television due to a major back injury that WWE anticipated would require surgery and force him to miss the rest of the year.

According to a report from Fightful Select, Orton required a fusion in his lower back that would keep him out of action for an extended period of time. The surgery has already happened, although the exact date it happened is unknown.

There are no creative plans for Orton and no timetable for his return, although he remains under contract through 2024.

One WWE source said the company would be fortunate to have him back after a long career and this injury.
