Real Reason Brock Lesnar Was Falsely Advertised For WWE WrestleMania: Backlash

Brock Lesnar was falsely promoted for this Sunday’s WrestleMania: Backlash Premium Live Event to convince fans he could win at WrestleMania 38.

Ahead of last month’s two-night event, promotional material for Backlash surfaced online, featuring both Lesnar (then the WWE Champion) and Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there were never plans for Lesnar to work the May 8th event, saying:

“It is notable WWE had first advertised Brock Lesnar, even though he was never supposed to be on the show. The explanation was that if they didn’t advertise Lesnar, it would give people the clue that Lesnar wasn’t winning at Mania. Anyway, it’s direct false advertising.”

Lesnar would lose the WWE Championship to Roman Reigns, unifying their two titles into the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Lesnar was also advertised for Money in the Bank 2022 but has since been pulled from promotional material.
