The reason why Roman Reigns vs Rey Mysterio was moved to SmackDown instead of the Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View has been revealed.

Speaking on today’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that it was simply a matter of WWE trying to get the match in front of the largest potential audience by having the show live on FOX. However, even with this PPV calibre main event the preliminary ratings suggest SmackDown still failed to reach two million average viewers.

Meltzer also confirmed that as of the time of writing Reigns will not be appearing at this Sunday’s PPV instead, Reigns will have Sunday’s show off. This will make it the first main roster PPV Reigns has missed since his return at SummerSlam 2020.

As a result of Reigns vs Mysterio being moved off the Hell in a Cell card, WWE elected to put Bayley vs Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship in the cage so SmackDown could still have a Hell in a Cell match at the PPV.
