WWE took to Twitter on Saturday night following the Day 1 pay-per-view event, announcing that Drew McIntyre has suffered a “cervical neck strain with severe contusions” after he was attacked by Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss backstage following his win over Moss. WWE tweeted,
“INJURY UPDATE: @DMcIntyreWWE suffered a cervical neck strain with severe contusions.
Upon further evaluation by medical staff he will have a follow-up with an orthopedic cervical specialist.”
According to a report from Pwinsider, the injury angle to Drew McIntyre at WWE Day 1 was done because Drew has been dealing with legit neck issues for the past few weeks. According to sources, he will be undergoing testing for the injury. That is the reason for WWE writing him off TV for now. McIntyre left the Day 1 pay-per-view event wearing a neck brace.
As of this writing, there is no word on how long McIntyre will be out action. The hope within WWE is that it’ll be a short-term thing.
